The Namesake, Fall Independent Reading Project: My Beginning Thoughts

For the independent reading project we were assigned, I decided not to pick any of the novels on the list. Instead, I found a book in Ms. Sobrero's classroom called The Namesake, by Jhumpa Lahiri. From reading the description, I learned that this novel is about an Indian couple living in America and missing home as they raise a child named Gogol. His name creates difficulties for him as he gets older and experiences friendships, hardships, and love. I feel like this book will really interest me, since I like reading books about cultural subjects. I look forward to reading and enjoying The Namesake.
